Work from home predominantly. Earn a full-time salary. Support rescued cats.
This is a unique opportunity to run a mission-driven café almost entirely from home.
If you set up strong systems, lead the team well, delegate responsibility and stay on top of the work, you can legitimately manage this role from the comfort of your home 90% of the time (or more) while still earning a full-time salary of $48,000 plus performance-based increases and bonuses.
The better you organize and delegate, the less you need to be on-site. We are looking for someone who wants exactly that outcome.
About Us The Alaska Cat Cafe in Wasilla pairs great coffee and food with an adoptable cat lounge. 100% of the cafĂ©âs profits support our nonprofit partners, The Cat Cottage, which rescues and cares for cats and kittens in the Mat-Su Valley, The Mat-Su Borough Animal Control and basic care support to Clear Creek Cat Rescue. Youâll be helping both a local business and a real animal-rescue mission.
The Role You will be the ownersâ right hand and the day-to-day leader of the cafĂ©. After a short training and ramp-up period, the clear goal is that the large majority of the work is handled remotely.
On-site time should become minimal if the role is managed correctly. What youâll do:
- Weekly cash deposits and occasional change runs
- Inventory and ordering (Major food delivery every 6 weeks, Costco supplies, As needed grocery supplies such as milk, muffins, syrups, cups, etc.)
- Staff scheduling (weekly or bi-weekly)
- Hiring, coaching, and (when necessary) letting people go
- Ensuring kitchen and staff follow all Borough and State food-safety and cleanliness rules
- Cat-related logistics: food/litter levels, vaccine records, âcat binder,â arranging or providing transport for vet visits or new cats/kittens, and alerting owners to shortages
- Daily social media posts and responding to messages/comments
- Customer issues and complaints
- Merchandise levels, pricing, and displays
- Coordinating maintenance (snow removal, etc.) with contractors
- Filling in or finding coverage when staff call out
- Light monitoring of operations via cameras to keep standards high
You will need to be able to step into barista, kitchen, or cat-room roles if required. We already have a full-time CFO plus bookkeeping and payroll support, so you will not be doing the finances. Barista skills are a big plus. If you already know your way around espresso drinks, thatâs a strong advantage. However, we are open to training the right person who has solid restaurant, fast food, or management experience. Who This Is Perfect For
- Someone who wants real responsibility and the freedom that comes with it
- A sharp, mature, organized person who can lead younger staff with both kindness and clear expectations
- People who value flexibility and want to earn a full-time salary while working primarily from home
- Anyone motivated by efficiency: the better you set things up, the less time the job has to take
- Someone who cares about animals and likes the idea of their work directly supporting rescue efforts
Bonus compensation if you have interest or experience with grants for the nonprofit side. Compensation & Growth
- Starting salary: $48,000 per year
- Performance-based increases and/or bonuses tied to the cafĂ©âs results and how efficiently the operation runs
- Formal review at six months looking at finances, effort, and overall performance, with pay adjustments discussed in the spring
This role is built for someone who wants to earn a full-time wage while spending the vast majority of their time at home. High performers who make the café run smoothly will see it reflected both in their pay and in how little time they ultimately need to spend on-site. Requirements
- Reliable transportation and valid driverâs license (deposits, occasional cat/vet transport)
- Ability to be on-call and cover shifts when necessary (this is not compatible with another job that has rigid hours)
- Comfort with animals and basic willingness to handle cat-related tasks
- Strong communication skills (email, Facebook/social media, staff, customers)
- Food handler certification (or willingness to get it quickly)
- Maturity, integrity, and a genuine desire to make the business and the cats succeed
Experience in management, restaurant, fast food, or related fields is helpful.
Barista experience is a plus, but we will train the right candidate.
